Does sunlight cause algae to boom in aquariums?
My aquarium gets direct sunlight from a window and seems to have more algae than you'd expect. Is there any correlation?

Aquarium should never be placed under direct sunlight. It is to avoid algae boom as well as overheating the water.
Check out the following article for where you should not place your aquarium.

Of course there is a correlation... Sunlight feeds algae. Either move the tank or invest in some otocinclus catfish.

Yes. I would recommend moving it from direct sunlight. Also, the option to get a pleco or plecostomus is not a wise idea, all plecos need at least 30 gallons and the common ones you find everywhere need 75 minimum, plus they produce tons of waste and don't clean the tank well. I would recommend shrimp or certain types of snails (Not apple snails, the produce tons of waste and don't clean algae much just like plecos)

Depends, me my self haven't had a problem with it and it is probably a good thing as well as I cant keep any other fish with my betta other then Neon tetras. If you can perhaps get a snail or pleco or even I have a window wiper thingy that you use to wash windows with I run that on the inside of my tank when I clean it. But make sure it has never come in contact with soap or better buy a new none used one.

Yes, thats why they say never put your aquarium on a window. It causes algae blooms, and it can kill your fish because of lack of oxygen.

Yes, to some extent. You should never have a fish tank near a window-the heat will eventually 'POP' the tank-leaking it all over the carpet. Put a tank away from sunlight-you can put in a 'Natural' light blub, which will retard algae to some extent-it will be brown rather than green. But it can easily be scraped off.
