If humans truly aren't apes, then why do we go by something as primitive and animalistic as body language?

Humans ARE apes. We're a different kind of ape, but that's what we are. And body language is something nearly every animal uses. We didn't give up body language entirely once we left the trees for the same reason we didn't give up our fingernails and hair once we started wearing clothes and shoes. Evolution is a very slow process.

Body language is extremely ancient. Ants have body language. The animal genetic program spans every species.
