Facebook might turn the page into a memorial on delete it depending of the user's settings. It order to do either of these Facebook has to be notified that the person is dead. If you would like to have someones account be made into a memorial then Facebook asks that you give the name, date of death, and link to an obituary or other documentation that shows that this person is dead. To find more information about memorial pages and how to request one or set up your own settings go to https://www.facebook.com/help/1506822589577997/
Facebook does not say how long this would take but it does say that the memorial request has to be reviewed by their staff before it is accepted. To make a request go here https://www.facebook.com/help/contact/234739086860...

You can designate someone as your beneficiary, and they get partial control over it if you die. Otherwise, a family member could probably send in a death certificate to the Facebook admins and turn it into a memorial.
I have a friend who died almost 6 years ago in a car accident and his Facebook profile is still just a normal profile. People occasionally post on his wall with old pictures and stuff to remember him.

I had a friend die last fall. I just got a facebook notice of his birthday. I think it depends if someone notifies facebook, then it gets turned into a memorial page.

Same as yahoo. It will stay up and active, unless next of kin provides proof of death to the company.
