For the top drivers, salaries and race winnings usually make up less than a 1/2 of what they earn annually. The majority of their income is from sponsorship agreements and souvenir sales (hats, shirts, jackets, etc). Dale Jr is NASCAR's most popular driver, so besides getting promotional income from companies such as Nationwide, Chevrolet, Tax Slayer, Mountain Dew, etc he also earns a lot from sales his merchandise.
