Why Is My Apple Tree Growing No Apples After 10 Years?

We planted an apple tree about 10 years ago and it hasn't grown any apples yet. I think it may have gotten buds but no apples. Why is this happening and when will it start growing apples?

Update:

There's an apple tree like 20 feet away that grows apples every year. We didn't plant it as a seed, we planted it as a small tree. I don't remember where we got it.

Most fruit trees are grafted onto a root stock. If you are not careful, the root stock will grow up and choke off the bud graft. Then you won't have an apple tree, just a root stock, which may bear very tiny, very sour little crab apples, or none at all. That may be what has happened to your tree. Or maybe it just needs some Phosphate fertilizer and more sunlight.

    Good luck

Does it flower? Possibly flowers are not getting pollinated so fruit does not develops. Do you live in an area where other apple trees produce fruit? If not then the climate may not be right for it to be able to set the fruit. Did you buy the tree from a reputable nursery? Talk to someone there or at any good tree nursery for suggestions. If you just planted a seed from an apple you bought it could be a hybrid that will not produce fruit.

We had an old farmer neighbor that said that if a fruit tree did not bear, take a 2x4 a couple of feet long and beat the hell out of the trunk. Don't do any damage like peeling bark of or breaking branches. I have never had a fruit tree that did not bear, but he claimed that it worked on one of his trees.

It may not be a producing tree. I have an olive tree that doesn't produce olives: it was bred that way. You may need to graft onto this tree. Ask your local gardening nursery.
