God has many names but one most Holy.

The Jews were told this name but never recorded and didn't use it for fear of offending God.

As a result we don't know God's Holy name.. we only know YHWH which isn't' a name in Hebrew, Greek, English or any known language.

Of course JWs have pinned their whole faith around knowing God's Holy name and even used what is at best the best guess to use for themselves.

The plain reality is that in OT times names were used to sum up the character or essence of a person and what idiot would try to claim that God can be summed up with just one name... apparently that would JWs.

Jehovah is the personal name of God, as found in the Bible. (Exodus 6:3; Psalm 83:18) A witness is a person who proclaims views or truths of which he is convinced.

Thus, our name Jehovah’s Witnesses designates us as a group of Christians who proclaim the truth about Jehovah, the Creator of all things. (Revelation 4:11) We witness to others by the way we live our lives and by sharing with them what we’ve learned from the Bible.—Isaiah 43:10-12; 1 Peter 2:12

    Psalm 113:2

May Jehovah’s name be praised From now on and forever,

    3

From the rising of the sun to its setting, Let Jehovah’s name be praised.

    Deuteronomy 28:10

All the peoples of the earth will have to see that Jehovah’s name has been called upon you, and they will be afraid of you.

Jehovah is the most accurate and common transliteration of YHWH. Therefor used in the NW Translation. The name means 'He Causes To Become'. Which is very appropo for our Creator

Look up Tetragrammaton for a good explanation of the name of God... Tetragrammaton basically means the Four letters... These four letters YHWH were the letters the Jewish scribes would use when copying the ancient text.. only the High priest was alowed to speak the Holy name of God and only in the temple, in the Holy of Holies. all that could read, could read the text but NOT say the Holy name... sometimes under the YHWH the scribe would write Adon. meaning LORD or Master

That doesn't prove His name is Jehovah, especially since the word "Jehovah" didn't exist until long after the bible was written.

In fact, Jehovah doesn't appear anywhere in the bible. YHWH does, and "Jehovah" is nothing more than your preferred translation of that name.

I'd rather go by what God says His name is, not what JWs think His name is. "I am what I am" or in your NWT "bible" "I will prove to be what I will prove to be".

Jehovah isn't the name of God. It is a guess at what YHWH might be. Joel, from the Hebrew Yoel, would actually mean "YHWH is God" ....however it was actually pronounced, which no one on earth knows.

Jehovah came about in the 13th century, from a Catholic monk.

"Jehovah" is simply a European alternative spelling for Yahweh (The Hebrew letters look exactly the same for both names). Yahweh is a name adapted from a sound that only the Hebrew priests were allowed to chant in private. No one actually really knows that the word/sound actually sounded like.

Well - my name probably means "supplanter".

If God's name is "Jehovah", then why do some names (like mine) do not have that name as the meaning?

    Reasonably

    - Someone's name having "Jehovah" as part of their meaning is not sound reason to conclude that "Jehovah" is the name of God

    - And indeed, one wonders at the accuracy of a source that claims that "Jehovah" is part of the meaning of a name

If I told you that "Bob" was part of the meaning of my name, would you conclude that "Bob" is the name of God?

Then why do you conclude that "Jehovah" is the name of God when someone claims that "Jehovah" is part of the meaning of some name?

The reasoning that your question follows is simply awful.

People have made up many names for the gods they invented over the years.

Father Raymundo Martini Latinized yah (I am) and the Masorite pronunciation of YHWH, and came up with yeh-hovah, in Latin Iehovah, which was anglicised (Jehovah) when the William Tyndale bible was published in the year 1526AD.
