What is the ONE THING that is needful, in the following context?
First, here is that reference for this blessed context:
And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she came to Him and said, Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me. And Jesus answered and said to her, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things. But ONE THING IS NEEDFUL, and Mary has chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
(Luke 10:39-42 MKJV)
What is it that makes this ONE THING more important than any other thing?
Why is it the ONE THING that we cannot do without?
When ONE has chosen that "good part", why shall it never be taken from the ONE that chooses it, as in the example of Mary?
Is there a connection between this ONE THING that is imperative, and the GREATEST command starting with it as well?
In other words, we often think the greatest command is to LOVE, and while it is, it all starts first with the essential "HEARING" of this ONE Thing....The greatest command is to "HEAR, O Israel (Prince with God) the LORD (YHWH) our God is ONE,.."
Mary chose to recognize the Living Word of God being communicated and chose to receive and take in that incorruptible seed, and living water... or simply stated, "sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word"... Is this then like doing the greatest command to HEAR and LOVE, for Mary chose to HEAR the ONE who was UNITED as ONE with the FATHER GOD?

Every day living should NOT be first over spiritual nourishment.
Mathew 6
31 So never be anxious and say, ‘What are we to eat?’ or, ‘What are we to drink?’ or, ‘What are we to wear?’ 32 For all these are the things the nations are eagerly pursuing. Your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 “Keep on, then, seeking first the Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these other things will be added to you. 34 So never be anxious about the next day, for the next day will have its own anxieties. Each day has enough of its own troubles.

Mary recognized that the words Jesus spoke were not his words, but were the words of the One who sent Jesus to us (John 12:49-50 and John 17:8)
Mary also understood that we are to hear the words Jesus spoke each and every day (Matthew 6:10, and Matthew 21:16-17)
Most of all Mary understood why and how we are to hear the words
Jesus spoke even though Jesus is no longer here on earth.
( Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
Matt 24:35 (KJV)
(My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.
Luke 8:21 (KJV)
(If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
John 8:31-32 (KJV)
(But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
John 14:26 (KJV)

Remember Mary (Matt 26:13, John 11:2) as a Memorial to her, for she anointed by body at the hour of my death.
And because I have used the words spoken by Jesus I am compelled to say REMEMBER MARY as Jesus commanded me to do.
However I am not compelled to say "Piece be to this house (Luke 10:5) because you do not accept the words as spoken by Jesus as I speak them to you.

The one thing that she knew of and desired is God's salvation. Nothing else in all creation remotely compares in importance or urgency .
