Need help making eye contact?

So we are doing speeches in school and I can't seem to make eye contact with people. My teacher said this is extremely important but its just .. embarrassing?

    Just look at people's foreheads it'll seem like you're making eye contact with them. Or between their eyebrows too.

    I read, heard or noticed that if you gaze at the area between peoples eyes at an audience they feel like they are sharing your gaze.
