I have to nails growing on one toe? ( my big toe) any reason why?

There are two layers of nails growing on my big toe and the original one ( the one growing on top) is discolored and thick, bumpy. The nail growing underneath is clear and looks healthy. Why is their a new nail growing under the current one? Also, if I go to a doctor, will they remove the top nail?

    wow.....never stubbed your toe before...its called healing...the body does it every now and then...
