The simple things in life are the most satisfying, intellect over physical indulgences. Contentment comes from being happy, even in the most trying circumstances.

Look at this contrast between the Epicureans and those who disputed with them, the Stoics.
"[Epicurus] taught that pleasure and pain are measures of what is good and evil"
- "Epicurus" in Wikipedia
"Neither pain nor pleasure make a man better or worse. Therefore, they are neither good nor evil."
- a Stoic, Marcus Aurelius
If you read Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, you see admonitions to the reader, presumably male, to be manly, not to be fussy about what one eats, and to be content with a bed that's wood covered with a bear rug.
The word "Epicurean" has a connotation of refinement of tastes.

Having everything near you so you can achieve the maximum of everything in your life.
So you don't waste time and accomplish real fulfilment.
Sorta like, the most extreme and well managed version of Yolo. You should read the story of Epicurus. He was well off and then he did that as an experiment to find out what the meaning of life really is.

Pleasure is happiness. Except for sex, which only hinders our ability to attain ataraxia or tranquility or the perfect absence of negativity, which is the highest happiness.
