Is EA going to screw up Mass Effect: Andromeda?

I recently read an article where in an investor meeting, EA CEO Andrew Wilson said that they were looking to break beyond the "core gamer" with Mass Effect Andromeda. To me that sounds like EA is going to force Bioware to pander, or that EA is going to go on some crazy marketing campaign and try and sell books, maybe a movie or TV show. Don't get me wrong here, publishers trying to break away from the core audience has been happening a lot recently. For example the WoW movie, and possibly a Last of Us movie, and numerous other examples. However Mass Effect as a franchise has been almost completely unmolested by these types of side shows. There has been a bit of it with ME2 and ME3, but for the most part the game has been true to core gamers (despite some storyline controversies), and my worry is that EA is going to push this "breaking out from core gamers" thing to a level that might be a huge problem for Andromeda. What do you think?

Yep, probably. Their fingerprints were all over the obviously rushed and justifiably maligned (yea, fixed to some degree, and the MP was surprisingly decent) ME3 and that game was already partly under development before they got purchased by EA.

Much of the original team, including Bioware's founders and the writer of the first two ME games is gone. Wont be the same.

As for getting away from core gamers, expect a harder push for multiplayer, and second screen options. Some sort of mobile game component tie in and micro-transactions. that's what that means from a gaming standpoint, usually. Unfortunately.

EA has got a bad reputation, but I've also seen them in a good light as well.

Here, EA makes most of their money by making sports games. Repetitive, maybe, but engaging and it never EVER ends. You could play them for an entire year waiting for the next year's to come out. Sports fanatics depend on EA for their favorite games.

Also, there is a man who decided to patent the word "Edge" in videogames. He was attacking indie developers that were naive to these laws and getting their games, companies changed and even shut down entirely.

Then comes EA with the game "Mirror's Edge". The man in question fought EA for the rights to the name. EA counter-sued saying he was fraudulently owning the rights to "Edge". Not only did EA win this counter-suit, but they almost bankrupted him all while he lost the rights to that name. Essentially, EA stuck up for the little guys.

Now my personal experiences with EA is their games are mechanically-sound mediocre games. They make good games that can be enjoyed by many, but they never hit the "my favorite game of all time" mark, at least not for me.

They've done a great job with Mass Effect in the past, correcting their mistakes and I believe this next game is going to be great as well.

However, with all the nice things I say about EA, I can also say that supporting them, giving them money and buying their games isn't the best idea in the world, either.
