I need help with my divorce! Help??
Ok first a little info. I live in Oklahoma and cannot afford an attorney so have decided to do my divorce on my own. With that being said... My divorce with my ex is uncontested so I had went to one of those places that type up your divorce papers for you. I got them done then went and had them filed. Sometime later after they had been filed I had realized there were mistakes made in the petition. Mistakes like the spelling of my sons name, birth dates, requesting joint custody instead of full custody, and since then my address and number have changed. So my first question is how do I go about getting them corrected???? The other problem I have is since then I have moved and somehow lost all my copies of the divorce papers. I have none of them, and we have not been to court at all (there isn't a court date yet, it shows it's still pending) so what do I do?? Please help..and in simple terms as possible. I need to know what EXACTLY to do step by step. Thank you!

Where you filed them will be the original- that likely was signed by a Notary Public (I hope), and stamped as 'received' by the courthouse/clerks office. Ask for a photocopy, show your ID, and explain there were errors. You will need to ammend & refile. Ask if you can request a 'hold' or 'stay' on proceedings until the corrections can be made. May have to fill out a form, pay a small fee, pay re-filing fee? Multiple errors may (or may not) void it. But in case of birthdate & name errors, it possibly could. The specific parties involved & proper identification items (name & DOB) are significant errors, and legally questionable. Check it thoroughly and get it notarized if necessary. And by all means, keep a copy in an important place. It wouldn't hurt to have legal aid look it over, help with corrections, and offer you advice.

You say you filed the papers, so contact the office where you filed them and explain the situation. Tell them you've found errors in the papers and need to make corrections and ask the best way of going about correcting the errors. Do you need to pull the papers and then re-file or can you correct the filed papers without having to start the filing process from the beginning.
ALWAYS review legal documents before you put your signature on them or file them. Even a simple typo can void a legal document. Before you submit the corrected document make yourself a hard (paper) copy and an electronic copy, so if you lose the paper you can always print yourself another copy (if needed).
The link below is for Legal Aid Services in OK. You might want to contact them for advice as well. Per their website "Our goal is to provide free or low cost services to eligible low income people, and senior citizens."

And this is why doing anything that has legal significance without the help of a lawyer is such a stupid idea.
Get one. Now. You should have done that in the first place. Find the money somehow. You will never be able to untangle the mess you made on your own.

Call the Clerk of the Court of the Family Law section in the county where you live. Ask them what you need to do to file a corrected (also called amended) Petition of Divorce.
And for goodness' sakes, CHECK THE PAPERWORK BEFORE YOU FILE IT.

How did you miss so many mistakes on such important documents? And then lose them?
I especially do not see how you accidentally filed for joint custody instead of full custody. smh
Contact the Clerk of Court and explain your situation. He/she will tell you what you need to do. Pull yourself together!

Go down to the courthouse. Go to the cashier's window where you originally filed and paid. Ask your questions there.

If you paid a paralegal service , then you go back to them and have them correct the errors and re-file .
