Can you be a feminist and believe in equal rights for men and women?

Most women who say they are feminists say that this is the only definition of feminism. If you ask them what issues feminists work on in the west right now, they usually have no idea. The fact that the biggest issue in feminist organizers agenda right now are; 1)Abolishing women's prisons. Yes, they believe that prisons affect women more strongly then they affect men( not my words theirs, I will provide a link or ten if you like) 2) Erasing the supposed wage gap, and they only way to do that, is to force people to hire candidates that they would rather not. 3) Education, as in changing teaching methods to suit female students better. This is why boys now graduate less often then girls do. The truth is is that equal rights in the west have already been granted. Any work done to promote women now makes rights less equal. So, if you believe in equality, you can NOT believe in feminism. Employers are the ones that know best who would be the right person for the job, not the government. If a woman id the right person, she will be hired. Methods of teaching that promote female students, do so to the detriment of the male students( and the educational level of the whole country it seems, because Americans who graduate High school know a lot less then they did in the past) …so which is it?

Update:

WE ARE ALREADY EQUAL.

Update 2:

How difficult is that to understand? Men and women in the west ARE EQUAL. EQUAL> EQUAL EQUAL. Literally. There is an amendment that says we are equal. All, of these necessary changes are giving women rights greater then those of men. It seems kind of obvious to me.

Update 3:

That is the feminists favorite thing, to not listen to what is said, then resort to name calling. WE ARE EQUAL. The changes deemed necessary by feminists are NOT to make men and women equal, as they already are. It is to give women privilleges that men do not have.

Update 4:

What is equal sided equality? It is statistically true that short men do not earn as much as tall men, and perhaps brown eyed men earn more then grey eyed men. Equal does not mean the same. Does this mean we need laws to make sure that every physical trait is equally represented everywhere? NO!!!!!!! It doesn't mean things are unfair either.

Update 5:

I obviously asked this in a way stupid people can too easily misunderstand. Sorry about that. ret, I am going to choose your answer as best. And try to ask more simply.

Update 6:

So in other words unless you can see some non existent injustices, you can not be a feminist. As long as men earn more, regardless of if they work harder, or if more men are in certain fields, regardless if they have va better aptitude….it will never be enough.

"Can you be a feminist and believe in equal rights for men and women?"

If you are a follower of the modern day feminist movement in any of the first world Western nations where we already have equal Rights enshrined into law, then the simple answer is NO. Equal Rights was the originally stated goals of the Women's Rights Activists (now renamed as First Wave Feminists). We have achieved that a long time ago.

Changing the goal posts to the feminist revised definition of "equality" is a post Second Wave phenomenon. Of course, actual "equality" means:

--the state of being equal, especially in status, rights, and opportunities:--

Considering women have equal Rights and Opportunities guaranteed by law, then the only assumption can be that feminists want equal status to "men". But WHICH MEN??

Every time feminists speak about men, you might be mistaken for believing that all men are elite class, privileged 1-percenters ... or international bankers or CEO's. The reality is that most men are pretty average, working class dudes. And even they don't have equality to the rich, elite or upper class men (or women for that matter). So why would feminists be insisting that only women should be equal in status to the highest status males when most men do not have that kind of equality??

Feminists need to explain that to us in simple language, that does not veer off into nonsense cultural M@rxist, social entering language that feeds us gibberish "feminist theory" like "patriarchy theory" or "toxic masculinity" or any other such rubbish.

And it's hilarious to read the completely condescending feminist answer here that claims that women have not achieve equality .... and berates the users here as children or uneducated adults. This is the kind of answer we have come to expect from feminists, since they cannot explain their position in general terms without either veering off into feminist double-speak, or just shaming anyone who doesn't just accept their rubbish ideology.

Yes being a feminist means believing men and women to be equals, and pushing for the necessary changes in order for men and women to actually receive equal or equitable respect and consideration under the law, economically, and socially.

If you think equality has been achieved, you are sorely mistaken. Perhaps you are a young child, and so you haven't actually learned all the ways that racism and sexism play unpleasant roles in our lives. Or maybe you are too young and ignorant to know the way things *are* is not necessarily how things *should* be, nor do you have the ability to consider how things could change in order to be equal/equitable. Going to school will help you (if you are American, you will have to work a bit harder).

No. Wanting special "women's rights" contradicts equality.

Equal MEANS for men and women.

You can't have one sided equality because then it isn't equality. I can't even begin to understand how so many people can't see that.
