5 machines make 5 widgets in 5 minutes. 100 machines would take how long to make 100 widgets.?
This was supposed to be put in math, so sorry, I don't know how it ended up here.

Each widget takes 5 minutes.
So, (100x5) = 500 total time to make 100 widgets for 1 machine
Divided by 100 (as there's 100 machines) = 5
So it takes 5 minutes.

one machine makes one widget in 5 minutes. 100 machines will make 100 widgets in 5 minutes.

work = rate * time
Presuming that all machines work at the same rate, we can find the rate of one machine.
with 5 machines and "r" being the rate of one machine, all 5 working together is "5r".
5 minutes, so time = 5, and 5 widgets, so work = 5
so:
w = rt
5 = 5r * 5
5 = 25r
r = 1/5
Now you want to know the time it takes for 100 machines to make 100 minutes. So rate is "100r" (and we have a value for "r"), and work is 100. Solve for time:
w = rt
100 = 100r * t
1 = r * t
1 = (1/5) * t
t = 5
It will be the same 5 minutes for 100 machines to make 100 widgets, as each machine makes 1 widget in 5 min.

5 machines make 5 widgets in 5 minutes
5 machines make 1 widget each minute
100 machines make 20 widgets each minute
100 widgets / (20 widgets/minute) = 5 minutes

if 5 machines make 5 widgets total in 5 minutes, it follows that each machine makes one. and therefore that 100 machines, each working for five minutes, will make 100 widgets.
