Has anyone else started to realize this whole transgender thing is just one big distraction?

I didn't really think about until another user pointed it out, but there have been women transitioning to men, and men transitioning to men for at least a decade or so now, and it's never really been a big issue. I'm pretty sure they've been using that bathroom they want to for a long time too. But yet all of a sudden it's turned into a huge debate. At the same time as the US and Canada (I don't know about other countries in all honesty), are going through a fairly big economic downfall. And there's a fairly big election coming up. Does anyone else think that the whole issue being started about transgender people was just to distract people from, what I personally think, are bigger issues?

Update:

Haha, I mean men transitioning to *women. For anyone who noticed.

I am sure the first such operation was in the 1930s, which say it's been happening for almost 80 years and over the last 50 years is very common.

This current campaign came about after Jenner came out. The single flaw in any objection is it's not based on any real experience.

No trans person has assaulted a child in the women's restroom. But lots of straight men have yet no one speaks about them.

"Has anyone else started to realize this whole transgender thing is just one big distraction?"

Those of us who directly impacted by this have known this from Day 1.

Not only that we knew this was coming as soon as social conservatives lost the marriage equality battle.

What I find profoundly disappointing is the media handling of all of this. Instead of busting these myths and lies of the conservatives, they instead try to appear "fair" by presenting both sides as equals. That's not fairness, that's aiding and abetting bigotry in the pursuit of ratings.

Yeah the news meda are distracting people from bigger problems such as the economy, some new powerful virus going around and the deadly Zika virus in Brazil. I think the news media is basically spamming us with LGBT issues more than ever before now

you never had to pay any attention to it.

its funny because 95% of people who debate this ****, talk about it, or even follow its progression aren't effected by it at all.

its not like someone is trying to distract the public, the publics trying to distract itself. there are real problems in the world that people can focus on. I can see why trans people would fight for their own rights but fighting against it is just absurd.

I feel like people are just pissed at SJWs and feminists so they take it out on trans people because they got tied up in it all.

As someone who lives in NZ I find the whole toilet debate so ridiculous. People go into the toilet to pee and crap. Who cares what it comes out of.

Transgenderism is pushed down out throats, so people will react accordingly.

I think its a conspiracy to combat overpopulation.

    but distraction sounds ok too.
