Dear fellow atheists, can't we officially make atheism a religion?

We could.

But that defeats the purpose of what we stand for.

We are atheist. We dont believe in god or gods.

And alot of us are also anti-theist.

They are two separate things, and christians and other religious nut jobs confuse for one another..

So no on making a religion to unite atheists. It doesnt make sense for what we are fighting against.

IMPOSSIBLE Because it is NOT!

The only way primitive religion exists today is through the child abuse of forcing it into very, very young children but thanks to better education and growing intellects so many teens are able to discover the truth, throw off the indoctrination and step into the real world!

Atheism is not a conscious decision or a belief but a realisation, those that cannot escape remain prisoners of their conditioning!

Why do you not know what an atheist is‽

ATHEIST - someone who does not believe in a God – any God – not just the Christian one. But that does not mean they do not hold strong moral or religious beliefs! They can follow any religion that does not have a god and there are a lot of those!

Like BUDDHISM – Religious teaching from Buddha and his followers that by destroying greed, hatred and delusion (the cause of all suffering) man can attain perfect enlightenment!

Where do you think Christianity got it's ideas of a soul and afterlife from for goodness sake?

They stole it from the pagan tribes and peoples which existed hundreds and thousands of years before Christianity!

From the stone age through Vikings, Egyptians, Maoris, Aborigines, American Indians and especially the Chinese, they all had elaborate funerals and grave goods to speed the soul into the next life with comfort!

A practical bonus; there are so many religious tv things .... we could have a weekly program then, with "sermons" by scientists and have the state pay for them (that's how public tv works, in the Netherlands anyway; get some members (who pay a small anuual membership fee), start a broadcasting organization, get BIG government subsidies).

Mind you, those broadcasting orgs DO have more members than the political parties. A slightly amusing and somewhat scary fact.

No. You can't make atheism a religion. To be a religion, you need more than just a belief or disbelief in gods.

You're welcome to create your own nontheistic religion though.

You can use Scientology, Jedism, and Dudeism as your models.

It's not like people haven't thought of that before. Then there's Agnostic Pantheists like Einstein, and Buddha. The Satanical viewpoint is I am God. God is a very elastic word.

And I'll be the accountant. After all, my Jewish grandmother did teach me how to penny-pinch when I was younger.

OK, we could rent a house to have parties and get tax exemption. Who want religious people on parties anyway?

New Atheism already is a religion.

Yes, you can. Just establish your doctrine.

1. Socialism / communism is good

2. Fornication / homosexuality is acceptable

3. Macroevolution / the big bang theory is the truth

... and so on ...
