Tensile strength metaphor?
I tend to stretch metaphors and am somewhat worried that one day one of them might snap, so ... what is the tensile strength of a metaphor? Or, alternatively, how far can one safely stretch one?
2 AnswersWords & Wordplay5 years agoWhy are there only OLD candidates for the US (vice) Presidency?
Barack Obama is going to retire soon and he's 55 years old right now. You'd think that - if it wasn't for the US laws forbidding it - he could easily serve another term or two.
Because if you look at the candidates for the presidency and their running mates;
- Rep: Donald Trump (70) and Mike Pence (57)
- Dem: Hillary Clinton (68) and Tim Kaine (58)
- Lib: Gary Johnson (63) and Bill Weld (71)
- Green: Jill Stein (66) and Ajamu Baraka (62)
you can't help but notice that they are ALL older than Barack and they haven't even been elected yet (and I didn't even mention 75 year old Bernie Sanders).
I can't help feeling that a younger candidate - mens sana in corporo sano - would be a good idea; somebody in tune with modern technology who understands social media and realizes that tv is kinda dying (watching stuff online when you want, where you want instead).
So ... why are there only old candidates?

Would werewolves need to use fleapowder? If so, what amount, how often, which brand ....
And what with the running about, would ticks be an issue? Would a werewolf be able to pull a tick out while in animal form? Can a werewolf get Lyme disease (it's something Europeans are currently warned about, lyme disease from ticks)?

I mean, I sometimes need a change from make=my-ears-bleed heavy metal, so the music of which of those two singers should I listen to now?

Why is it that Americans go apesh*t when there is a female nipple visible, while topless men are okay?
Even more bizarre are those Disney duck characters; going around barearsed but wearing a jacket or something .... UNLESS they go swimming or are at the beach.
I just don't understand the very specific 'allergy' to female nipples. Can somebody please explain it?

1 AnswerInternational Organizations5 years agoWhat would be an acceptable sustained (long term) rate of accelleration for a MANNED spaceship?
As an average human passes out at a mere 4 to 5 G WITHOUT having to actually DO anything (and you can't strap somebody into a chair for a LONG time) I'm guessing at a quite low rate.
3 AnswersPhysics6 years agoWhy do so many people ask questions 'here' that are indecipherable?
Any sane person would realize that you are far more likely to get a useful answer if your question is clear. It also helps if a question is put in a relevant category.
Yahoo Answers6 years agostrange (?) guitar sound preference?
I have a guitar (and some bass guitars); I've noticed that I prefer the sound of the A string (the second string) to the E string (the first string) - in fact all other strings sound nicer to me.
I don't think it's just a matter of frequency, so .... what might be the reason for this slight aversion?
