Is it safe to permanently remove the backseat and cushion from a Honda civic lx 2004? For more storage room. Will it affect the gas tank?

    Sure it is safe. The rear seat has no effect on safety one way or another. Just make sure you have nothing in the trunk that can come forward in an accident.

    All that stuff will come forward at the speed the car was doing in an accident. It can crush the front seat passengers.

    As to bring legal that depends on where you are.
