With regard to flatscreen TV sets, the screen itself is an LCD panel, like a digital watch. It forms a picture but does not illuminate by itself. Older sets used a fluorescent lamp system to provide the lighting from behind (the "backlight").
Modern set replace the fluorescent lamp with an array of light emitting diodes (LEDs). The screen is still an LCD panel.
So a TV marketed as an "LED" set is more correctly described as LED/LCD (or possibly LCD/LED) to indicate an LCD screen with LED backlighting.

liquid crystal display - light emitting diode (LCD - LED)
Can't you see they are both spelt differently

they are two kinds of displaying components on electronics ....
but i think you meant about tvs ..... if yes .....both screens are the same (LCD) ...which one named LCD ..its backlight components are CCFL ( thin florescent lamps) and the other one named LED ...its backlight components are LED lamps ....LED tv has brighter picture and has longer lifetime .....ccfl lamps get dark like normal florescent lamps after a while ....

Liquid CRYSTAL DISPLAY....LIGHT EMITTING DIODE...there is no correlation between the two. One is used to BLOCK and UNBLOCK LIGHT...so if there is NO LIGHT to begin with...you can see anything. An LED generates PHOTONS by its very nature...and we can SEE the light.
