Is the male-female wage gap a myth?
So someone told me that this whole "wage gap" talk stems from taking e.h. the average amount ALL men on full-time jobs earn and comparing it to the average amount ALL women on full-time jobs earn: the result is, women earn less on average than men, and this is paraded as gender inequality and discrimination, but what isn t taking into account is that a much larger portion of men do risky/high-paying jobs while a lot of women settle for comfortable, low-paying jobs. So it isnt about the sexes, but what kinds of jobs tend to get picked by each sex.
Is this true?
A common example cited however is, "female doctors make much less than male doctors", but upon digging further I realized it is never mentioned that a lot more male doctors are specialists (e.g. surgeons, ENTs) while far more female doctors are pediatricians?
If anyone can provide me sources for studies where an average desk job at an office pays more for a man than a women despite both having same qualifications, please do.

No, it is not a myth, and only a sexist jackass would pretend otherwise.

Yes. It's a EARNINGS gap, not a wage gap. When you work less hours, choose career paths that pay less, and are less likely to work full-time - you can't also expect to make more money than someone who does all those things and more. A wage gap would mean women are paid less for the exact same work despite having the same qualifications, hours worked, and position at the same company. The wage gap is not only untrue - it's a flat out lie -- and illegal.

Any difference between the earnings of a man and a woman exists only because of choices the woman makes. There is no inequality.
