What is a positive argument for the nonexistence of God?

I hear a lot of negative arguments that attack Christian arguments, but does anyone know of a positive argument? A positive argument states the criterion for the position and correctly deduces it which premises that support their conclusion.

Just curious.

Whats a positive argument for the nonexistence of leprechauns or dragons or X-men or any or any other ridiculous fairytale invention?

Arguments are based on evidence and non-existent things don't tend to leave behind evidence of their non-existence. Things that do exist, on the other hand, do leave evidence.

What is a positive argument for the nonexistence of God?

    - Sixth graders know you cannot prove a negative, I wish the elementary school kids would get off of this forum.

I hear a lot of negative arguments that attack Christian arguments,

    - They have no intelligent arguments.

Epicurus, a Greek Stoic philosopher, put forward this argument for the nonexistence of God:

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?

    Then he is not omnipotent.

Is he able, but not willing?

    Then he is malevolent.

Is he both able and willing?

    Then whence cometh evil?

Is he neither able nor willing?

    Then why call him God?

However, it is not a positive argument as is shown in the article below.

Theodicy implies God does not exist. I'm sure that's not the only one. We may disgree with the details of the argument, but this example of one, even if weak, suffices.

A positive assertion requires evidence. A negative assertion is a rejection of a positive assertion due to lack of evidence.

Read that a few times, maybe it will sink in.

You can modify the Kalam Argument to make it prove there is no God.

P1 - Nothing which exists can cause something which does not exist to begin to exist.

P2 - Given P1, anything which begins to exist was not caused to do so by something which exists.

P3 - The universe began to exist.

P4 - Given P2 and P3, the universe was not caused to exist by anything which exists.

P5 - God caused the universe to begin to exist.

Conclusion: Given P4 and P5, God does not exist.

(There is no objection to this argument that doesn't also apply to the Kalam Argument.)

Note: Those putting forward this argument usually do so not to proves there is no God...but to show the problem with the Kalam Argument.

Maybe, well actually certainly there are for certain definitions for a god, but that's beside the point.

THERE IS NO CREDIBLE EVIDENCE THAT ANY GODS EXIST

The concept of god (or gods) came about from an uneducated, superstitious time when ignorant early man looked for "reasons" for stuff that did or not happen. "God didit" is an easy explanation for unknown science (droughts, monsoons, thunder, earthquakes....everything), and early man was not a terribly complex thinker.

We all have free will, which indicates that we (the Human race) is not "governed" by a supreme Deity. That's a good thing!

  • Atheists erroneously believe that absence of evidence equals evidence of absence. They don't do logic too good, you see.
