Thoughts on why some people "hate sports"?
I promise to try not to turn this into a rant. It's just something I've never been able to fully grasp. As a avid sports fan, I'm just looking for a little perspective here. To me, sports are not unlike music and movies, they are all just forms of entertainment. Rarely will you here someone who says something about hating all music or movies. Obviously, people have preferences, and will say things like "I hate rap music" or "horror movies are terrible" but you do not often find people tossing around such blanket statements like "I hate music". So I wouldn't think twice about doing the same with sports, such as "baseball is boring" or "football confuses me", but to just group all sports together just doesn't seem right.
I understand people thinking that athletes are overpaid or cocky, but I would say the same could be applied to musicians and actors, but like professional athletes, those individuals are immensely talented and have mastered their craft. So why is it that so many people can just group all athletics together and just say that they don't like any of them? Any thoughts?

While I agree it is rare for people to say they dislike all music or movies, its not that uncommon for people have a blanket dislike for something. For example its not uncommon or people to say they hate reading or videos games, etc.
Moreover sport isn't necessarily that inclusive to an outsider, you don't need any background information to watch a movie or listen to music, but you do need to know the rules of a game to understand a sporting match (and these rules can often be very involved). And if you don't know them watching the sport can be boring and confusing.
Also I think a lot people who are not good at sport, are put off it from a young age, after being subjected to years of PE. And that this dislike of participating in sport, can then translate into a dislike of even watching sport.

I don't like sports in general because I think they're relatively pointless. Music is an art, it makes you feel something. Movies tell a story. Sports? It's people running around playing with a ball for the most part. The only positive in my opinion is that it brings people together. Otherwise, I just don't see the appeal.

I used to love sports! Especially NFL football, MLB, and the summer Olympics. Now I could take it or leave it. I do enjoy watching live sports because it's a treat and it's exciting to see live sports in a packed arena. I just find that sports are mostly pointless. For example: You watch an entire basketball game just for it to be won in the last couple seconds. The athletes are mostly overpaid jerks who have NO loyalty to the city they play for.

Speaking for myself, I especially dislike spectator team sports, as I detest "group think", or people behaving as a biased collective body. I always have, but I honestly don't know why, it just disgusts me. I like non team sports more, or even team sports in a non-spectator environment. I agree though, what some athletes can do is absolutely amazing.
My general ignorance of team sports comes from my disinterest in them- I simply never bothered to learn about them.
