Tips for a long drive?
Two of my friends and I are driving down to Florida in the fall. It's about a 12 hour drive, and I hate long car rides. I keep only finding tips for children, but we are all 25.
We all see each other a lot so there will only be so much constant conversation we can keep up on.
Both my friends fall asleep on 2 hour long rides, so I'm sure they'll both pass out while I'm driving. But I can't sleep in cars so I'll be awake even when I'm in the back seat.
Advice on how to keep entertained/awake?

Talking helps. Have a bit of a conversation about anything. Even if it's trivial. Either of you have a smartphone? The non-driving passenger could use it to check out CNN.com MSNBC.com or FOXNEWS.com. Find a news story and talk about it. Ask him/her for their opinion and state yours have your companion give reasons as to why his/her opinion is valid, you do the same. Just try not to get into a heated argument. But your topic could be about anything, the latest breaking news, the latest athletic getting a huge contract, the latest celebrity scandal, the latest UFC guy failing a substance abuse test, anything. Ask your companion what would be the best solution to rectify the issue, etc.
A month ago I drove 900 miles to drop off some transmission parts for service. 14 hour drive. With satellite radio I listen to guys argue about the winners and losers of the NBA draft, and I don't watch basketball, but it felt like I was in the middle of a conversation.
The driver needs some sleep just before driving, but avoid sleeping pills as they sometimes have lingering effects hours later, not a good combination for long driving.
Careful with heavy meals, as in some people (myself especially) it can cause drowsiness.
Careful with beverages as they are often followed by having to urinate. Having to make extra stops is no fun, especially if the next town is 50 miles away.
Good luck on your trip. God bless.

Roll up a big ol fat hooter, plug in some good blues music, then enjoy the ride.....Get a long piece of grass or something like that, and entertain yourself by messing with your sleeping friends....Whats funnier than tickleing someone whos asleep.....OOOH !!! A BUG !!!
Give a friendly wave and a smile to a Trucker.....Give em the blow your horn " Arm Pump "....Thats a fun waker-upper for a sleeping friend...they always think the driver must have done something stupid....make **** up....they were asleep...they dont know WTF....have some fun

When I drove long haul i made sure to have ice chest with ice and pops, mlk etc, different snacks and candy jerky, gum etc other then that its all listening. my favorite past time was crazy radio talk shows but if your going to be with friends go get some comedy tapes like george carlin or tape some off the internet. [when you do a lot of laughing you are there befor you know it. if you start to feel drowsy open window....keep wind on face or grab some ice but pull over within 5 min , don't kill your friends. i was so tired one night around 4 am ,with nowhere to pull over my eyelids went down.and I knew it was all over. Then dead relatives, one at a time ,got me through the mountains and kept talking and making me laugh and yelling WAKE UP and even taking the wheel and i ........ ah you forget that story. I wish I could!.still don't know why I was spared?.I'm retired now[ no pun intended] ANYWAY......Happy motoring!

First of all try not to make it more difficult than it already is. It's a road trip, it's going to be a long ride you can either tough it out or don't go it's simple. If you want to stay awake and entertain yourself just watch movies on your phone & listen to music. And most importantly (DO NOT TEXT AND DRIVE!) I cannot express that enough.

Download some good podcasts on a topic you're interested in or some radio comedy/dramas.

If you are able to read while riding in a car, take a book along for the silent periods.

First thing to do is plot your route.
The second, is to find stops every few hours along it - interesting crap to see, or even to stop off for a meal.

They used to have these things called BOOKS. I seem to remember spending many hours engrossed that way.
Maybe some of those things are still available.
