Equal Area Criterion Help?

2.4638cos(x) + x = 2.5843

x = 0.7003 radians

How is this conclusion reached? It must be able to be done through a calculator or mathematically.

    Newton-Raphson method is quite simple.

    x_0 is any close guess. x_n = x_n-1 - f(x_n-1)/f'(x_n-1)
