I dented my first car and scared to tell parents?

I was pulling out of my friends driveway in reverse. I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention because I didn't know there was anything that would do any harm. but it turns out there was a wooden post that I ended up hitting on the side, damaging my rear view mirror and making a tennis ball sized dent above my front tire. I know it doesn't seem bad, but it was so reckless and my parents just bought me this car a month ago. It's not brand new, but it looked like it when I got it. I was thinking about just saying I don't know what happened and that someone must have hit it and left, but I don't want to lie. help? any also advice on how to get the dent out?

Tell them what happened, why lie? Then tell them you've learnt from your mistake and will be a lot more careful in the future as you realise that could have been a small child behind your car.

You have just reached the stage which all new drivers go through where confidence exceeds ability. Every new driver has an incident which brings them up short and makes them realise they still have a lot to lean. Some are lucky (I was one) and get away with a near miss. Others not so lucky dent their pride and joy. The very unlucky ones either kill themselves, or worse, someone else.

You've got away relatively unscathed from yours. Learn from it and take more care next time. If a cell phone was involved; lock it in the trunk before you get behind the wheel.

Don't lie - you are too old for that. Auto parts stores sell paintless dent repair kits. They don't work well on creased dents but it sounds like yours ought to pull out pretty well. See the video in the source.

Tell them. Or find a quick handy man.
