Why do many Christians dislike and fight against LGBT people?
Is it because part of them fears there may be no God to enforce their will across the land? Surely if there God were all powerful and on their side then they could just sit back and wait for him to smite us.

The same reason people dislike and fight against anyone. Fear is at the root of all bigotries. We have to overcome our fear of differences and if we're Christians recognize Christ's command to Love our neighbors and do unto others what we want done unto them trumps everything.

They have no self esteem or feelings of self worth. Thus, In their minds, demonizing people or groups subordinates those people or groups to them and gives them a shot of self esteem and self worth, albeit an extremely small shot which dissipates in a very short period of time.
