Why did Michael Phelps say he felt worthless and empty before he established a relationship with God?

Despite winning Olympic glory, worldwide fame and tens of millions of dollars, Michael Phelps considered himself worthless, began to spiral downward into drug and alcohol addiction, and contemplated suicide. it wasn't until he began to read about God and to commit himself to a Christian life that he found happiness. The change in his outlook and his life is so obvious. In 2008 and 2012, even after winning so many medals, he always seemed to have anger buried inside. Now he seems so happy, it just radiates from him when he gives interviews.

We are all empty without God in our lives. Why do you think atheists on this site lash out so much with insults and trying to tear down believers. It's because they feel alone. They are trying to tear others down, so they don't have to be alone. But in truth, they don't know God, so they don't know that they are missing him.

I'm not aware of him saying this, but like I've said many times before, i don't care if Olympians are religious. Or anyone else for that matter. As long as they aren't spreading hateful messages.

He's a not particularly religious Christian, like skip out on Church, probably don't read the Bible, but still think that God is real and that Jesus, in a vague sort of way, died for his sin sort of Christian, not the born again Evangelical Christian as you make him out to be.

Some people do seem to have a natural inclination towards needing to reach out to God before feeling better. I know that I always needed to do this.

    Must have been weak minded.

Turns out he had childhood trauma and after hitting his peak he had nowhere for his previous drive to take him.

    Sounds ripe for religious indoctrination.
