If I say that Korea is on of the worst countries for vegetarians/vegans, would Koreans be offended?

There was an article in the Huffington Post that listed South Korea as one of the worst countries for vegans. I find it to be true, because when you tell most Koreans that you are a vegetarian or a vegan, they will never understand you. Plus when you go to a small community in Korea and you want to eat out, there is nothing vegetarian that is available for you. But if you go to the big cities you're better off because they have Indian and Thai restaurants that serve vegetarian options on their menu.

So would most Koreans be offended if I say that Korea is one of the worst countries for vegetarians/vegans?

If you said it just like that, one would find it blunt, but who cares?

Also which 'Koreans' would be offended? Who is you audience? If you are talking with a bunch of people your familiar with and have shared things with, then have to be rather childish to be *offended* by that. If you're talking with weird strangers or nationalists, then that's different. You can't really generalise here as Andrew did. Know your audience and go from there.

South Korea is indeed one of the worst places for vegetarians. But in all fairness, Koreans don't make it a habit to make special arrangements for anyone. Koreans also take offense whenever anyone makes an observation that is in any way critical of their society so there's really no point attempting to sugarcoat anything. People who wish to maintain a special kind of diet such as vegan, vegetarian or pescatarian would undoubtedly have a very difficult time in this country. But to answer your question ore definitively, yes, Koreans would be offended, but as I said, it really doesn't matter because they'd take offense to any remark that they interpret as being even slightly critical of their country.

You've already got answers so I just wanted to say, although no one would care, that this is what I was telling my vegetarian friend about. She brags about being vegetarian but she is Korea-obsessed and says, "One day, I'll go to Korea! I can't wait to eat all the food there!" and I told her, "Good luck with that." and she wouldn't believe me after I told her that she'd have somewhat of a difficult time.

Still you can find vegeterian restaurant. There are lot. But people don't go there.

It depends on the person if they will be offended....If you are trying to find vegan/veg. food in Seoul, there are tradtional but veg./vegan available (try a buddist temple) and also other ethinic foods in Itaewon.

The Huff Post is not accurate on many things and there are many vegetarians there. you can buy many things that are strictly vegetarian and lots of soy products in restaurants. they eat lots of noodles and rice without meat.
