Can I still do clinical work as a administrative medical assistant?

I have a certificate in patient care technician but I realize now that I rather work as a medical assistant.

I see a certificate program in administrative medical assisting...which is good. is this similar to the goal as a clinical medical assistant

The thing with MAs is they are unlicensed in most states, so in reality they can be trained to do anything a private clinic or Doc might want. However, in a hospital clinic or hospital setting the hospital will require certification. SO yes, you may in a private enterprise, no you may not be able to in one that requires specific cert. A specialty only front office cert for a medical ad assistant will not give you any back office clinical skills. How much the PCT will transfer over to back office is hard to eval but you should look over the scope of practice and skills required of a MA and see if you have training in that. You could do a full MA program which teaches front and back ofice and can be as short as the specific ad asst.

Source(s): teach MAs and write test Qs for NCCT.
