Why does everyone use "lunge" instead of "longe" when referring to exercising horses?

    Why not,longe is a variant of lunge? Besides,I have never heard anyone use the word longe,so it must be just a thing in your country.

    Well, if EVERYONE uses it, then it must by definition be the correct word. If EVERYONE uses "lunge," where did you get the idea that "longe" is the right spelling? Oh, then you mean that SOMEONE does use "longe." So it can't be true that "EVERYONE" uses the other spelling.

    Lunge is correct, in UK English, and seeing as a lot of horse stuff is done in the UK it's understandable why lunge is used by some people even in the US.
