What is this word?? I can't think of it but I know the definition.?

What is that word where someone is purposely trying to be nice to you because you're mad at them or something...it just makes you feel stupid because they know you're mad at them but they are trying to be nice...I dunno that's the best I can explain. Thanks.

There are a few words that describe the actions of a person who is being nice when faced with another person's anger... the choice of which word is most precise would depend, at least in part, on the "nice" person's motivation. For example, is "nice" person is sincerely remorseful? Or is the "nice" person trying to gloss over the situation?
