The first job after college is the most difficult to land; with experience, you are more confident yourself and more valuable to your employer. The type of job for which you are applying determines the type of experience you need. If you have a degree from a medical school, a tour as an officer in the armed services would help you get your internship while getting paid well, and that experience would look great on a resume.

Retail work gives you certain skills as Jackie mentioned.

However, any job experience is better than none.

Having a job shows that you can hold a job.

Yes. When I hire entry level people right out of college for specific jobs, I look for them to have had specific types of paid, customer-facing experience, and retail is exactly the type of thing I'm looking for.

Most jobs is person to person so working in retail gives you lots of customer service experience and enables you to work out problems easier than someone who has not done this type of work, it is not just retail but call centres are also good to give interaction experience, Good luck
