does an internal ultrasound hurt>?

How big is the part that goes inside? I'm going for a pelvic ultrasound (I have a cyst on my ovary) and it's painful. I was almost in tears when the doctor was just doing an exam, so I assume the ultrasound would hurt more. I've only had an external ultrasound and I remember it hurting. Not sure if it's suppose to, but I had very bad stomach pain last time

    No, it shouldn't hurt.

Pain is your bodies way of telling you something is wrong, and doctors aren't in the habit of causing you pain - if it does hurt then let them know as it can be an indication of your health problem. The wand they use is like a slim dildo and they use a lot of lubrication, as long as you're relaxed it shouldn't hurt you - technicians may bump into your cervix, which can be uncomfortable, but just let them know if they do cause you any pain.

I don't want to scare you, but it was the most painful test I ever had. The tech kept pushing really hard on my insides and it hurt worse than a rape. The part they put in you is about the size of a vibrator. That isn't painful, it's the pushing hard on your insides that hurts. Try taking Aleve an hour before they do it.

Doctors never do investigation to hurt their patients. If you have uncomfortable feeling when doing procedures, pain relief or some lubricant will be given to minimise your uncomfortable. So don't worry about it.

    Take it easy.

It's really thin, maybe a couple of centimetres across. They use loads of lube to it slips in easily too.

You can feel pressure, but it doesn't hurt.
