Christians, do you support death penalty?
I'm a Christian and I don't understand how a Christian can support it. I won't down vote you if you do, I just want an explanation.

I support it.
The reason I do is not that I want people to die (though they may deserve it), but because it stops people from committing the horrible crimes in the first place. It's like putting an electric fence around your yard. The point is not to shock intruders because they deserve it. The purpose is to keep potential intruders from even trying to get in. It becomes not worth the risk for them. I think the death penalty would save more lives than it would take.
As for the question of whether or not countries have the authority from God to kill as punishment:
"Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain." -Romans 13:3

If you are a Christian then you should know that your salvation is 100% guaranteed to you by God's justice. Christ died for your sins and this means God cannot accuse you for any of them again. And here is the key - Christ needed to die to justify the demands of justice. If God did not take justice lightly, why do you think we should promote injustice in society by dispensing with death penalty for taking a life of another individual?

Someone guilty of committing a heinous crime should be at least subject to the death penalty.
It is a just sentence in some cases.
And in those same cases anything less is not justice.

It is not mercy to allow the guilty to go free to slay the innocent.
Isaiah 10
1 Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed;
2 To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!
Deuteronomy 25:1 If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, that the judges may judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked.
Proverbs 18:5 It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
Luke 23
39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.

I don't because it should be only God's decision on when it's time for someone to die, not society's

Of course. Being merciful doesn't apply to it how you think it does. It means kill the villain without having him suffer, that is, kill him instantly like by beheading, firing squad, etc.

yes. The Bible is very clear that human government has the right to enforce capital punishment. Maybe you need to read that Bible a little closer.

According to the Bible God said vengeance is his to repay. So what's not in men's hands to decide whether not a person should live or die.
