Addressing rank in The U.S. Army? Master Sergeant [Last name]/ Sergeant [Last Name] vs. no name included?

When speaking to a MSG or 1SG and above I ve always noticed cadets simply addressing by rank and no last name. E.g., "Good afternoon Massarnt"

Does this apply for ranks of Sergeant First Class and below? Is it more important to address as, "Sergeant [Last Name]" or is it acceptable to still just say "Sergeant?"

For the Army, E-5 through E-8 are casually addressed as "sergeant," except for First Sergeants. Formally, they are addressed by their full rank.

It's the Marines that get all butthurt if you forget to say "staff" when addressing an E-6.

You can always address someone by their rank, in every service.
