How to deal with financial stress?

I am a single 33 yr old, my net worth is minus 10grand(credit card debt--mostly because of my 17 yr old car, that I purchased 5 years ago). I make 40grand per year. I still live in an apt.

I am very stressed out financially and have no idea how to deal with it.. I have been struggling financially for 9 years straight. It has a huge impact on my self-esteem, so i can't really date women or nothing.

I need to buy a new car within the next year or two. I am losing ALL hope with this.. Plus I have a huge drinking problem; which obviously hinders my success...

Update:

Well, I should have figured i'd get answers from 17 yr olds that don't know anything at all..

Update 2:

Judy had the most intelligent answer so far. Everyone else seemed WAY stupider than me.

Bankruptcy for 10grand?? What were you idiots thinking??? I know lots of people who have student loans that far exceed a lousy 10 grand... I went to school for 3 years.. I know others guys that have up to 30grand in student loans... I might pay only 300-400 dollars per year in interest on that...

Sure, I drink probably 600-700 dollars per month yeah... Common sense question? YES.

You guys are morons.

Stop drinking and wasting money on drinks. I don't drink and I can probably afford it. Never take a new loan to pay off an older one. Just save and pay them off little by little. Also just use a debit card. Just. You will be fine. Don't worry.

You're an immature and very naïve human being, you have a lot of learning to do in your life. Put the dumb beer down for once and start applying for jobs. Log off of damned Yahoo Answers and get onto indeed.com and start applying for jobs in your area. It is very irresponsible to sit around not applying for jobs while drinking that stupid damned beer. Alcohol is not good for you, you're in for a real rude awakening. You're in need of a major reality check in your life.
