Whats the main use for fork terminals in electrical wiring?
So the 12v adapter I'm installing has a fork terminal at the end of the negative wire that needs to be grounded to a bolt in my car. I was wondering why a fork terminal would be used instead of a circular terminal?

They both work the same way and a circular terminal would be more secure, but the wire should not be under any tension, so the fork terminal will work fine. I cannot tell you why they chose a fork terminal over a circular terminal, but maybe they are cheaper since there is less material. Just a guess.

A fork terminal allows you to hook up the wire by backing out the screw without removing it completely. The circular terminal requires that you remove the screw to install it. In tight quarters and with small screws, this can be a significant advantage.
