Can my landlord say my dogs need to be locked up 24/7?
I have 3 very well behaved dogs living with me in a trailer in NC. The landlord knew I had dogs and said it wouldn t be a problem. One of my dogs peed on the floor once when I first moved in,which I cleaned up right away, and I haven t had any accidents since. I received a text from my landlord while I was on vacation stating that I need to lock my dogs up 24/7 because I lied about them being potty trained. I was wondering if she is legally allowed to do this or in force this. Thanks!

Both you and your landlord are bound by the terms of the lease you signed. Get your lease out, read it thoroughly. What does it say about owning dogs, how many are you allowed to have, what are the required damage deposits, housing & vaccination requirements, etc.? If the dogs are digging up the yard or ruining the place, I can see where a landlord might get angry. No one wants their places damaged by people or their animals. Have your dogs been bothering the neighbors with their barking? Could that be why they are asking you to keep them locked up?
Your landlord has the right to not renew your lease, or they can change the terms at renewal. You need to speak with them before they decide to change the lease, or you could be soon looking for a new place to stay with all these dogs. You need to find out what the real issues are with your dogs, and then work to remedy them.

Locked up as in a crate? I'd suggest that's above and beyond. If you have an agreement, IN WRITING, to be able to keep your dogs on this property (and you need it) then that should be enough EXCEPT it's up to you to respect the property and make sure your dogs aren't causing abnormal deterioration. Many rental agreements include a dog deposit which should cover anything that needs to be replaced when you move out.
Where were your dogs when you were on vacation - I hope with you and not shut in the trailer!!
Unfortunately, a landlord, the owner of the property, can dictate the rules under which you, and your dogs, occupy his property. But having to crate my hounds 24/7 would be above and beyond, for me. I do confine them in their crates, in with me, overnight, and have them in the kitchen when we go out, out of respect for the carpeting in here however. Mine are 'housetrained' but they are also animals, and accidents can happen.

Where were your dogs at the time when you were on vacation? Did you take them with you? In the UK a LL has to make an agreed meeting with the person owning the rental. I don't know the law in the US, but here they have to by law, as entering a person's property without prior permission is a punishable offence.
If said LL entered your rental without prior agreement, then he doesn't have a leg to stand on, however like I said, I don't know the tenancy laws in the US. I'm just wondering if when you say one of your dogs peed on the floor ONCE, that she may have found it unacceptable, and perhaps smelt it.

enforce. Depends on the location. Here a landlord can say 'no pets' or allow them but he can make no further edicts, such as cats MUST be declawed or dogs MUST have distemper shots or attend obedience school.... The tenant must pay any fee and be in compliance with local pet ordinances and thats it.I have heard of places with breed and size restrictions though, in other areas but never a potty training rule.

You're in NC, so probably no lease was signed. Also, you were on vacation, so something happened while you were gone. The landlord can require what he wants if no lease was signed.

Yes
You allowed the dog to piss on the property and all it takes is one time so the dogs have to be locked up if the LL says they have to be. You don't own the property so its legal and if you refuse to do as the LL tells you they can make you get rid of the dogs or even evict you

your landlord can say whatever he chooses too its up to you to take the action he requires or not. And unless its in the written contract no he cant throw you out either

What does the lease state? When the lease expires she could change the terms of the lease to suit her, and if you sign it, you've agreed to the terms.
If she owns the trailer she could evict you and charge you for damages and/or keep your deposit if there was one.

If you were only allowed to have them inside because they toilet trained then you technically broke the agreement when they peed inside.
