Because that's how the system works. The parties each select a candidate who could be anyone they like, and then there is an election. Nothing anywhere in the system requires whoever they pick to have ever done anything in politics before, so it can happen. The President is elected totally independently of anything else.

Compare that with a parliamentary system such as the UK. The Prime Minister is not directly elected, and who is appointed falls out of being the party leader whose party won a general election. The Queen can choose whoever she likes in theory, but it makes no sense for her to choose anyone who isn't the most likely person to be able to command a majority in the House of Commons - which basically gives her a choice of one, the winning party leader. Therefore it's practically impossible to be Prime Minister without being an MP first AND being popular enough with your party to get elected as its leader.

It's just a totally different system, and that's how it can happen.

Obama had only 144 days of "political experience" before he became president. Further, who says "political experience" is what is needed to run the country? Trump has been running in all the circles and has done a fantastic job putting together successful teams to get jobs done, for many years. He has always striven to be the best at what he takes on... Furthermore, all you have to do is look back over decades of interviews with Trump to see that he is passionate about AMERICA. Many people have a red, white and blue passion also, proud of heritage, history and achievements and afraid to see it all lost to crippling debt.

Here is a note for you. George Bush senior put policies into place that actually improved our economy and balanced our budget so that in Clinton's first year in office, we had no national debt. What we have has occurred since then.....

Easy! The American people were sick of politics as usual and political correctness and sick of the entire Big Government garbage in Washington, DC. If you haven't seen evil being unleashed in America, then you are blind. Tshirts with the cross being thrown in a garbage can. Gay men dancing in the streets with horns on their heads saying down with religion. Tshirts saying "If Jesus returns, kill him again." This is blaspheming the very Lord that blessed America. This is evil parading in the streets of America. As sin increases you haven't seen anything yet.

Oh, and I am sick of lawyers running this nation. I am sick of the taxpayer being forgotten but every demented human being given top priority. The poor and disabled will always be with us, but the perverted and sexual misfits can be helped with their mental problems. If you don't keep your taxpayers in good condition, how can they make money to pay for the poor, disabled and the misfits of society?

This is a nation that needs to repent, turn from their wicked ways and return to the Lord of the Constitution.

Haven't the idiots with political experience gotten us where we are?? We're 20 trillion in debt & increasing by 500 billion each and every year. Our politicians & president & congress are incompetent, inept, dysfunctional,.

We need a change, how much more damage can a president with no political experience do??

Uneducated chuckleheads like to vote for other uneducated chuckleheads, as they think their simplistic views, as taught to them by pundits are all you need.

If you know nothing about world politics, you're easily convinced that a similar Know Nothing would make the right decisions.

He is more experienced in life and knowledge than Obama. People did not want a political person. They wanted someone to speak for the working and middle classes who were not liberal Democrats.

Because "Political Experience" is a bad thing.

He ran against the most dishonest person ever to be nominated.

"political experience" only means that you've stood in front of a microphone and lied to people and made back door deals your whole life to gain status and money.

the last thing i want is a politician to be our president.

Well the important thing is, that man beat Hillary Clinton!

It shows that americans have no concept of politics. They prefer a tv personality to somebody who can do the job.

    God help america.
