What to do about an angry 8 y/o?
When my little brother gets angry it's not even kiddie angry. It's more like he might swing on you angry, we've even resisted buying him certain items simply were terrified he'll through them at us if he gets mad. Nothing pleases him anymore. He needs to find an outlet for his frustration.
My nephew had the same problem but they went to a family therapist when he was 5. They gave him a que line to say to his daddy when he fealt his anger coming up. ("Daddy im weird") His dad would then start tickeling him untill he was houling "im ok!!!"
He was then not only exhausted, but also the center of positive attention and rid of his angry feelings.
Kids dont have a whole lot to say about what happens in their life. Thats why babies cry allot. 8 year olds can say what bothers them, which helps, but it doesn't help them cope with jealousy or frustration. Thats a skill that comes with age.
So untill he can handle what he is angry about give him a PUNISHMENT FREE way of dealing with his frustration. And a code word to let you know. Then find something fun and easy you can do that totally exhausts him.
So you can reward him for speaking up and dealing with his frustration, and still tell him you love him after.
Good luck
