Rock and Pop: What music have you discovered over the past month?

I've finished listening to HANL's "Deathconsciousness" now and have listened to it several times - it's a great album. The fact that such an excellent album was produced on such a small budget should be an inspiration to many musicians and it is great evidence that most people can now make music in their spare time and have a chance to get noticed for it, without being one of the lucky few career musicians to be awarded a recording contract. "Deathconsciousness" also creates and develops a very dark, morbid atmosphere and features a broad mix of musical styles.

A YouTube link to the album, and also a link to an interesting article I'd recommend if you are interested:

Aloha Euan! I'm going to check out that Have A Nice Life album to see what all the fuss is about. Thanks for linking it and reviewing it.

Rush has been putting out masterpiece live albums with such frequency and regularity, most of their fans have gotten to the point of taking them for granted. But "Snakes and Arrows Live", put out in 2008 as a follow-up to 2007's studio album "Snakes and Arrows", stands out even among all of their other stellar live albums. Two things I love about it: It includes live performances of great songs from early in their career (such as Entre Nous from Permanent Waves, Passage to Bangkok from 2112, and Circumstances from Hemispheres); and it includes live versions of most of the great songs from Snakes and Arrows. Here are links to 2 of my favorite tracks from "Snakes and Arrows Live" (both songs are from Snakes and Arrows, which I consider the last truly great Rush album). I can't think of any other musician who can sing lead vocals live while playing intricate bass passages like Geddy Lee can. It's astounding.

    "Far Cry"

"Workin' Them Angels" (Note: This live track was released as a single in 2008, reaching #30 on the mainstream rock charts)

Hey, Euan. I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying Deathconsciousness by Have a Nice Life. It's an excellent album, and it deserves more recognition.

Anyway, one album that I've discovered over the past month is Melody's Echo Chamber's self-titled debut. It was released in 2012, and I'd describe it as lush, gorgeous and incredibly multi-layered neo-psychedelia/dream pop with strong elements of psychedelic pop. The self-titled debut of Melody's Echo Chamber has a luscious sound to it, and it has these layers and layers of enveloping music to get lost in. Here's a link to the album:

    Hey now young feller,

It's a welcome return of discoveries, and I hope you're doing well over there.

This week i've discovered Blue Tile Lounge, who seem to have a very consistent sound. I'm gonna present their album- Lowecase which is the one that got me in. It does not have a huge track list, but I found it dreamy in a lazy loungey type of way and really quite pensive. The percussion is a real stand out.

Bluetile Lounge - Lowercase (full album)

Next, in case you're short on time, a one-shot from a band i'm still working my way through- Soundpool. I'll offer up their song Walking on Air as the vocal harmony's are really cool and the female parts really sweet.

Soundpool - Walking on Air (one-track only)

    Cheers.

Henry Gray, starting with this one I grabbed on PBS radio in the shop. An incredible, ancient boogie man, still banging them keys. Run it down, let it roll:
