Is it time to say goodbye to my pet rat?

I took my rat to the vets about a month ago due to a large lump growing near her genital area, she was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour but I was advised to take her home and keep her comfortable for as long as possible. Now the tumour is huge! She has to walk with her back legs raised to keep it off the ground and her legs are pushed further to the sides by it. She has a big bald patch where I suspect it has been rubbing the ground and she isn't so keen on handling. On the other hand she still plays with her cage mate and eats and drinks just fine.

BUT... The vets close for christmas really soon so if she gets any worse I won't be able to have her put down, instead she will have to suffer through Christmas.

I don't know what to do! Please help me!

I know it is sad to let go, but if your rats quality of life is so poor or suffering at all, it doesn't help to put off the inevitable.

Rats generally live not much longer than two years, four at best, almost a shame they have such short life.

I would go with best call here and any pain or suffering should be the factor.

    Her behavior will reflect that.

Part of life means dying, that is what makes life complete, and no doubt your pet had a happy life.

Well if she seems to be on a lot of pain and isn't happy in general for example some signs can be not eating and drinking lots. Then put her down. But if she seems fine and still eats and drinks normally them spoil her ;) let her have lots of treats and what ever she enjoys let he be happy and stuff for her last moments. I hope she does ok best wishes! I lost my cat a while ago so i know how hard it is. Have an amazing Christmas.

I would take it to the vets now and speak to them. Ask their a second opinion.

We can't see what it looks like
