Do you believe that if death didn't exist people would still believe in God?

Or is it a comfort we have in our minds to hide the unknown fear, would people really care about religion if we didn't die, didn't have illness etc

What makes you want to believe and why?

Not being judgemental here serious question.

Only those religions that have an afterlife become widespread and popular. Religions that have no afterlife go almost totally extinct. It's all about the afterlife, cheating death.

On the surface, the Christian god may appear to be a simple social construct, but the psychology behind it is very complex.

That is to say the the Christian god is only the tip of the iceberg. If the Romans had not forced Christianity on the populous some other god would have become the focal point.

The concept of a god is kind of a "cure-all" for everything that plagues mankind: it provides social order, hope, and helps subside the fear and loss of death.

So, long story short, yes - - even when mankind has essentially eliminated aging and death there will still be those who believe in some sort of god as long as the idea of gods can be used to control others.

Well aren't you ignorant !! The greatest book ever written on that very topic was by an atheist (though he might have died a believer) and he rejects that thoroughly and with great evidence

    The Denial of Death

    by Ernest Becker (Author)

4.2 out of 5 stars 211 customer reviews

"Winner of the Pulitzer prize in 1974 and the culmination of a life's work, The Denial of Death is Ernest Becker's brilliant and impassioned answer to the "why" of human existence. In bold contrast to the predominant Freudian school of thought, Becker tackles the problem of the vital lie -- man's refusal to acknowledge his own mortality. In doing so, he sheds new light on the nature of humanity and issues a call to life and its living that still resonates more than twenty years after its writing.'

There was a time when death did not exist, and there will be a time in the future when death will be no more. Revelation 21:3-5: 3 With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. 4 And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

5 And the One seated on the throne said: “Look! I am making all things new.” Also he says: “Write, for these words are faithful* and true.” - - - - Learn what the Bible teaches about death: https://www.jw.org/en/publications/books/bible-stu...

    No death will happen someday...

    Revelation 21:1-7

1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

5 Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”

6 And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. 7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.

The Death is a reality, it is the ceasing of all functions of life. After breathing, heartbeat, and brain activity stop, the life-force gradually ceases to function in body cells. Death is the opposite of life.

    God exists:

"Of course, every house is constructed by someone, but the one who constructed all things is God" (Hebrews 3:4. Bible).

For most it is a comfort.

For the sincere and honest, death should have nothing to do with it.
