In California, where is it legal to mount a dash cam on a vehicle?

I know it shouldnt block my view. Is behind the mirror ok? Behind mirror on windshield?

The dash cam is for driving safety purposes. Insurance & court defense.

Having it on the lower corner might have a wierd video angle.

Does the gps & smartphone mount laws apply to dash cams as well?

Behind the mirror on the windshield isn't just the legally proper place, it's the perfect place.

(Behind means between the mirror and the glass, not between you and the mirror. That would both block your view and make for a lousy shot)

Dash Cams mount high and behind the mirror.
