Do I need to go through airport security again?
I booked 2 separate flights to get from Des Moines (Iowa, USA) to Oslo, Norway - a flight from Des Moines to JFK in New York with American Airlines, and another from JFK to Oslo with Norwegian. Doing this saved over $500, and there are 8 hours in between when I arrive in JFK and my next flight, so I should be okay in case of delays. (Even if I do have to buy another flight due to missing one, it's still cheaper than buying the flights all together). My question is, when I get to JFK, will I have to go through security again before getting on my next flight with the other airline? I am taking just carry on baggage, so the luggage won't be a problem. How will I get my boarding pass for my Norwegian flight? If I have the whole 8 hours, it wouldn't be a problem to exit the airport and start all over to check in, but if there are any delays, it would be much faster to not have to go through security again/get my boarding pass. How can I do this?

First I would have doubts with your assertion that if you miss your JFK-Oslow flight you can purchase another one for under $500. That may be the case now for a flight in the future. But you would only know that you will miss the flight on that day, and same day flights are going to be expensive, probably in the $1000+ range based on history. Not only that but a last minute flight may not have any seats available and you may end up being stuck in NYC for a day or so.
But on the flip side, yes 8 hours SHOULD be enough in most normal circumstances and cover minor to medium delays.
You should be able to get your boarding pass for Norwegian before you leave Des Moines by going online 24 hours in advance. At JFK American is in Terminal 8 and Norwegian is in Terminal 1, so you will be required to go through security again. The only Airside Transfers I am aware of is for Delta between T2 and T4.
If you don't get your boarding pass before you leave, you can go to the Check-In Desk at Norwegian and get it there.

If you can, print your boarding pass at home or have it on your phone (via the app for the airline). But, even if you do not have it beforehand, you can likely go to the Norwegian gate and get a boarding pass printed since you are already on the secure side.
Chances are, since you do not have to claim luggage and then check it with the second airline, that you will not HAVE to leave the secure side if you do not want to. If you do have to, it should not be a problem since you have eight hours between your flights. Just keep very alert of the time, where your gate is (watching for any changes), etc. and know that you have to board very early for an international flight so I would be at the gate at least an hour prior to takeoff.

If you have checked luggage, then yes. You will have to leave secured area, get the luggage and recheck it with Norwegian. If no checked luggage, you can check in online 24 hours ahead. You'll still need to report to the gate at least an hour before to confirm your travel documents.
