I want to be an actress but I get high grades academically. I think my family will be disappointed if I do performing arts. What should I do?

I live in England. My family are expecting me to go down a medical or law route for a career, but I've been acting and dancing since I was 3, and I would rather have a career in performing arts. I'm about to choose my A levels, and I think my family would be very disappointed if I choose drama, if they even let me. What should I do/ any advice?

The success rate for actors is very low. If you go after a career in law or medicine, you can act in local productions in your spare time. Then if you feel you still want to pursue a professional acting career, you'll have the law or medicine to fall back on if the acting career doesn't work out. If start out by trying acting, you will have nothing to fall back on if it fails.

Becoming a successful actress or even an employed actress is near impossible. It's more of a hobby. Stay in school!!

Actors make excellent barristers. Performing in a court room is very little different from performing on a stage. Do Drama as your fourth subject.

just keep in mind that less than 1% of people who try to become famous actually succeed.
