Step flashing is basically small 5 X 7" wide pieces of sheet metal bent at a 90 degree angle to seal out rain or water runoff between shingles and nearby sidewalls of dormers or chimneys, etc... Usually sold in bundles of 20 or 50 or so in aluminum or galvanized. Might need more details as to how many they need. May come in brown, black or white colors too, The roll of 14" metal (also called trim coil) is also sold at home centers for use in flashing areas to seal out rain/water....usually sold in small 10-20' long or larger rolls in various widths in aluminum or galvanized or colors like brown or white.

Home centers usually carry both products in the roofing dept's ...black color might not be available though. Brown might be an option or just plain metal.
