Some people really think the earth is flat?
I had no idea that there was an entire group of so called "flat earthers" who seriously think the earth is flat. There are apparently even some celebrities who believe it. I feel like other than proving that the sky is blue, there aren't too many more ideas that can be incontrovertibly proven with as much evidence than there is for showing that the earth is a sphere. Are these people really serious? Or just the greatest trolls of all time?

It dismays me, for I am a Christian and it seems perfectly clear that all the verses that speak of "the pillars of the earth" and "the four corners of the earth" and the sun rising and setting etc is just literary language for pictorial ways of depicting things. Even to this day, we still speak of the points of the compass as if they were fixed by a square grid reference when everybody knows that is not what is meant. Well, apart from a few flat earthers.
They have eyes in their heads yet they deny the sun, the moon, and the stars (planets seen through a telescope) are ball shaped? Or do they say everything in the universe is ball shaped except our planet? Surely not? We can see the movements of those objects and know a spherical motion is being undertaken with mathematical precision that is breath-taking. All satellites and the International Space Mission and the Hubble Telescope have their orbits programmed to go around planets, not to zig-zag back and forwards above, or below a flat disk!
I cannot believe that any sane person would ever claim the Earth was flat. Did they not see the film shot from the moon to show the Earth-rising? Heaven preserve us from such people who are in total denial.

Some people actually do think that the Earth is flat.
However, in 1968 when the Apollo 8 crew orbited the Moon, they took the photo now known as "Earthrise".
The Flat Earth Society posted a public notice saying that they might have to re-evaluate their beliefs of the day.
Today, there remains the desperate and uneducated "hold-overs" that weren't even born in 1968 ... go figure.
For all of the 'Flat Earth' die-hards out there ....
I encourage you to walk right up to any of the Earth's edges
and then be the first person to take 1-extra step, so you can let us know whether space is solid or liquid.
Thanks.

Clearly the earth has to be flat, because Jesus went to a mountain so high he could see all the kingdoms of the earth, and only on a flat earth is that possible. And you know the Bible is never wrong

Some are serious(ly nuts). Others are just the greatest trolls of all time.
If you look at Wikipedia's list of flat earth proponents, it includes Mohammed Yusuf (Boko Haram) and Wilbur Glenn Voliva, a fundamentalist Christian preacher. It also includes the Myspace and reality TV star Tila Tequila whose antics on Twitter have kept her from fading off into obscurity. She did troll the media into giving her coverage, which was probably the whole point all along:

Yep. Some think the earth is flat, some believe in the Tooth fairy, some still believe in god, all kinds of myths are stiill widely believed, in spite of the reality. Leprechauns are as likely as the rest, and dead birds don't cure illness.
But once superstitious thought begins, it can go almost anywhere, reality no longer matters to them.

(Job 26:7) He stretches out the northern sky over empty space, Suspending the earth upon nothing;
(Isaiah 40:22) There is One who dwells above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers. He is stretching out the heavens like a fine gauze, And he spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.
Both are a clear description of the earth in space...scientifically accurate.

No, alas, some of them are absolutely serious. Even if you will put them in a rocket and send them to space to see it, they will just pretend that what they see is a movie on a screen... I've meet someone like that in a train. Quite pathetic.
