I was Prescribed Atarax for my anxiety aka Hydroxyzine. How well is it for anxiety? any common side effects I should be aware of?

hydroxyzine is an antihistamine that is also used for anxiety. It doesn't work as well as Valium or Xanax, but has the advantage of not being habit forming. It won't get you high (unless you consider drowsy a high).

Side effects would be typical antihistamine side effects (except at your 10 mg. dose, you may not have much side effects)- drowsiness, dryness of mouth or throat, maybe a fuzzy headed feeling. these effects usually get better as you get used to it. But 10 mg may not do this at all.

Ask your doctor all of this, and barring that, get a list of side-affects and information about this medication from YOUR PHARMACY. They should give you a print out when you first fill the prescription. 10 MG is a very small dose, usually given by the doctor to see how you react, feel, etc. after a few days. didn't they tell you to make an appointment for about a month later, when you saw the doctor?
