What would happen to step down converter DC/DC 48V 12AH to 12V 5A if 48V to in and out ports?

I have a 48V tail light for an electric bicycle and want to see if I can wire it to be brake light as well as running tail light at night so would it work to run 48V to in port of step down converter to 12V out to power tail light would be dim until press brake with switch would power the tail light full 48V power when brakes applied but would also run 48V in the out port and the in port of the converter at the same time; what would that do? Would that damage anything?

Thank You...

Update:

In other words what would happen if I took a 48V step down convert to 12V and hooked 48V to in and out at the same time? Would it burn up the converter?

You are going about this in the wrong way. You really do not want a dim tail light - the whole point of a tail light is to show up in the dark for the sake of your safety. If you want to show additionally that you are braking you need a separate light. Alternatively you arrange a circuit so that the tail light flashes when you brake.

    48V will FRY the light.
